Apologetic Science Resources
An overview of creation science books, videos, and curriculum for young and old.
In November 2022, I published an overview of apologetic resources, in which I also explained what Christian apologetics was. However, I chose to cover the science resources in a separate post.
Many of these resources were created by Answers in Genesis and published by Master Books, the leading publisher of creation science. These titles will appeal to homeschoolers and individuals interested in the creation/evolution debate and scientific Christian apologetics.
Both Doug and I have an issue with library catalog systems.
Most are familiar with the Dewey Decimal System (DDC, created by Melvil Dewey, although John Dewey, the father of progressive education, is often mistakenly given credit for it). Our home library uses the Library of Congress system (LOC). Both methods tend to place Christian books that cover science topics under the religion section instead of the science section.
While in college, Doug worked for the Seattle Pacific University library, which used the DDC system. He sometimes disagreed with the categorical placement of some titles. Why were books on evolution always placed in the 500s science section (DDC 576.8)? In contrast, resources on creation science, which refutes evolution, were located in the 200 religion section (scientific creationism DDC 213)? This difference caused the SPU library to store titles with similar content a few rooms away from each other.
Creation Science: Religion or Science?
This confusion shapes the Newton Family Library as well. The LibraryThing, the database behind the TinyCat Library that I use to catalog our library online, displays both the DDC and the LOC call numbers. So, if I strictly followed these assigned numbers for shelf location, many of my apologetic science resources would appear in the religion section while others in the science section. I prefer to have them together next to the science books.
These two cataloging systems can even disagree with each other on a particular title’s placement. For instance, the DDC system places the creation science DVD Cloning, Stem Cells, and the Value of Life under religion 213. However, the LOC puts it in the science section, QH442.2 .C56.
This demonstrates how some books fit into multiple categories. You may notice that I place some titles in more than one collection in the Newton Family Library catalog for this very reason.
In response to this categorical conflict, I created a “Creation Science” collection in addition to the “creation science” tag to combine books on this topic with different catalog numbers.
Below is a list of titles with a religion call number but address the scientific side of apologetics.
Books
The Biblical Flood and the Ice Epoch: A Study in Scientific History (BS658.P347).
Creation: Facts of Life (BS651.P28).
Evolution Exposed Biology: Your Evolution Answer Book for the Classroom (BL264 .P) by Roger Patterson explores four high school biology textbooks found in public schools. It exposes the evolutionary content and confronts the errors contained in these textbooks.
Flood Legends (BS658 .M37).
The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record and Its Scientific Implications (BS658.W5) by John C. Whitcomb and Henry M. Morris, pioneers in the modern creation science movement. Around 2004, I dared to read this scholarly tome. The authors draw heavily from their science backgrounds, and occasionally I struggled to follow their discussion. Yet, this book provides a compelling argument for the worldwide Flood depicted in Genesis.
Grand Canyon: A Different View (BS658 .V33).
The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved (BS651).
Inspired Evidence: Only One Reality by Julie Von Vett (BS651 V665). A daily devotional I used with my kids for one year.
The New Answers Book 1 and The New Answers Book 2 by Ken Ham (BS651 .N455). With illustrations and charts, you will find these reference works easy to use when seeking answers to questions on the creation/evolution debate.
Old Earth Creationism on Trial: The Verdict Is In (BS651 .C44).
Taking Back Astronomy: The Heavens Declare Creation (BS655 .L57).
Ultimate Proof of Creation (BS651 .L57).
What Is Creation Science? (BS651 .M74).
DVDs
Answers with Ken Ham (BS651).
Most of our creation science DVDs have not been assigned a call number by LibraryThing.
Children and Youth Resources
Bible Animals by Bruce B. Barton (BS663 .B53). A picture book encyclopedia of animals that are mentioned in the Bible. For ages 8–12.
D Is for Dinosaur by Ken Ham (BS651 .H327). This picture book is three books in one: An alphabet picture book; a coloring book with black-and-white pages to copy; and a textbook for Sunday school, homeschool, Christian school, or as a family devotional. It offers lessons on creation, God’s word, the Fall, the Flood—and dinosaurs, of course! For ages 2–7.
Men of Science, Men of God by Henry M. Morris (BS650 .M565). Dr. Morris presents 101 mini-biographies on Christian scientists for students in grades 6–12.
My Creation Bible by Ken Ham (BS652 .H355). A board book for ages 1–3.
Noah’s Ark and the Lost World by John David Morris (BS658 .M675). This title covers the world before the Flood, the Flood itself, and people who have searched for the ark. For ages 6–12.
The True Story of Noah’s Ark by Tom Dooley (BS658 .D66). For all ages.
Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation by Dennis R. Petersen (BS651 .P48). A beautifully illustrated book covering the creation and the early earth, fallacies of evolution, original man, and ancient civilizations. For older children through adults.
What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs? by John D. Morris (BS652 .M63). The picture book covers Eden through Noah’s Flood. For ages 4–6.
Clearly Science
Meanwhile, the books on evolution are listed in the science QH section (QH359-42). Three of our library’s titles critique Darwinian evolution have QH call numbers:
Darwin’s Enigma: Ebbing the Tide of Naturalism (QH371 .S86).
The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design (QH367 .W44).
The Theory of Evolution and the Facts of Science (QH369.R5).
Nevertheless, several works in the creation science category do fall under the science category based on the library catalog systems.
The Wonders of Creation Series
These beautifully illustrated, multi-level homeschool curricula (5th to 11th grade) by Master Books can also be used for individual reading.
Young Explorers Series
This elementary Apologia homeschool curriculum I used with our daughter presents the subject from a biblical point of view and occasionally offers an apologetic lesson.

Unlocking the Mysteries of Life. We learned about this documentary from The Truth Project. It covers irreducible complexity and intelligent design.
The Privileged Planet, by the same publisher, Illustra Media, as the one above, discusses the fine-tuned Goldilocks status of earth and intelligent design.
I acknowledge that Christians have differing opinions on creation. Still, I encourage readers to look at these resources and see if their arguments come to logical conclusions. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section.
Also, consider these resources if a friend or family member has stumped you with the claim that religion and science oppose each other. Also, see my homeschool blog post “In the Pursuit of God, Science Was Founded.”
