I had submitted this letter to the local Whidbey Island paper, but they didn’t publish it. So I decided to post it here. Both my husband, Doug, and I worked on it.
Inge Morascini’s letter (5/21/22) stressed the importance of human rights and that they should not change as one crosses a state border, which is a good point. All humans have certain inalienable rights regardless of whether a government recognizes them or not.
Yet, by upholding abortion, Morascini denies our weakest citizens the primary human right—life.
Follow the science. Medical textbooks agree life begins at conception and that each preborn child has his own distinct DNA, making him a unique human. Anyone who denies this denies undisputed science.
Do not confuse the issue of humanness with the religio-philosophical concept of personhood. Pro-abortionists must scientifically prove that the unborn child is not human to maintain their position.
In her letter, Morascini gives a long, unrealistic diatribe speculating on what might happen when Roe vs. Wade is overturned. She sought to vilify pro-lifers, making them appear to not care about women. This ad hominem attack is unfounded.
Previously on this page (4/2/2022), I described the FREE services that the Whidbey Pregnancy Care Clinic provides to those in crisis pregnancies or young mothers who need assistance. Contrary to pro-abortionists’ claims, pro-life people will assist these women even years after the child’s birth. Such crisis pregnancy centers can be found all over the United States.
Finally, a civics lesson. The framers of the US Constitution knew that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Therefore, they divided our government into three branches:
Legislative branch: Congress makes laws and is directly accountable to the voters.
Executive branch: The president and his cabinet execute the laws.
Judicial branch: The Supreme Court’s job is to interpret the laws based on the original intent of the US Constitution. This weakest of the branches does NOT make laws despite what many Americans believe. It should not consider emotions or public opinion when making its decisions.
Fundamental human rights are for all people, even the smallest ones in the womb.
