Welcome to my blog, where I seek to dialogue with my readers about faith and culture from a biblical point of view. To learn about me, see my CV.

Lorinda’s Ponderings

This blog began in 2016 on WordPress, and I moved it to Substack in 2022. I seek to demonstrate that our individual lives, our culture, and our government operate best when each of these spheres is undergirded by the biblical worldview.

As a passionate follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, I want people to know the Truth (reality as God sees it) and to see today's issues through a biblical lens.

The main topics I focus on are education, comparative worldviews, and the sanctity of human life. I also review resources that parents and grandparents can use with their children to counter the negative influence of mainstream culture.

I see myself as the roadside flagger who warns my fellow Americans that by leaving our culture’s Judeo-Christian heritage, they are heading toward destruction both personally and as a nation.

Finally, I want to offer the hope of the gospel to everyone who will listen and especially to those hurting in this world.

"The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer.
But the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things."
—Proverbs 15:28

Newton Library Update

Both my husband and I are bibliophiles and had a sizeable book collection when we married over thirty years ago. Our library continued to grow as we homeschooled our children.

Even though we embraced e-pubs and Nooks when they first came out (and my husband worked as a software developer for the PC Study Bible by BibleSoft for four years in the mid-1990s, converting Bible reference works into dynamic electronic documents), I soon became concerned what could happen if we lost hardcopy books. (I read 1984 in 1984 in high school.)

So, instead of selling off or giving away many of my children’s books, I began to catalog them on the LibraryThing. A homeschool mom introduced me to this free app around 2009.

With the COVID crisis serving as a catalyst for many families to take the leap into homeschooling, I decided to make my family library public in 2022 by using TinyCat. I hope to encourage more families to homeschool by having free access to my resources. We also share books with members of our church.

I promote my library by writing a monthly overview, the Newton Library Update, on a subject section with mini descriptions of some of the books.

As of September 2023, I’ve cataloged over 2,800 titles.

Academy Northwest Blog Reprints

From March 2019 to June 2023, I wrote a monthly blog post for Academy Northwest, a hybrid homeschool/Christian private school program in Washington State. I have covered a wide variety of homeschooling topics. My son graduated from this school in 2018, and my daughter completed her high school program in 2023. So I decided to retire from this writing job. But I plan to reprint past posts here.
